ATLChris: 5 Things to Love and Hate about the New Apple Laptops

  • karlismiles · 1 year ago
I'm really disappointed that Apple took away the firewire port on the Macbook, and that they changed it to 800 on the Pro. Although, I like that you mentioned the change in keyboard because I too really love the Air's keys so it's nice to see they upgraded that nicely. Thanks for the reviews of the new laptops because I've been itching to touch one and seeing what they're like...and I know I won't for a while, but this has awesome information. It actually makes me love my little Macbook a little more because of some of the upgrades, but I do agree that the full aluminum case is awesome! *dreams*

I lucked out, my external hard drive which is Firewire 800 is the only firewire device I have, so I have really not been hindered by the firewire restrictions.

Well #4 is not 100% true. The new macbooks are actually .5lbs lighter than the plastic books. Of all stripes. And the new MB is even lighter than the 12" PB. But it does feel like the screen protion is heaver. The new MBPs on the otherhand did gain .1lbs over the previous ones. So you are only half right.

The feel "solid" which adds to the weighty feeling.

Thanks for pointing that out. Do you have a #4 item that you think would be better for my list?

My #1 complaint is the new trackpad. I used to be a "thumb clicker" and the new trackpad makes this nearly impossible. The constant affordance of the trackpad makes it hard for your thumb to feel where the click needs to be placed; I often find myself trying to click on the aluminum edge.

Worst of all, you cannot click with your thumb unless you first raise your index finger. Hopefully this is a software issue that can be fixed, but for the moment I enabled "tap to click" and am trying to retrain my brain.

With that venting out of the way, I must say I love my new MBP and would not trade it for anything! I tried logging into my old machine to test something and I couldn't believe how crappy it is compared to this beautiful new beast.
