Thanks for the review. My concern is why you would hear the HD in the VUDU box? I have two VUDU STB's and one is in the bedroom and it doens't make a peep. The other one is in our family room is just as quiet. Maybe you have a defective BX1000?

I am not sure why it is loud, but it is a distinct HDD spinning sound. I am not sure if it is defective or if it is just how the 1TB XL version sounds, all I know is I can hear it!

I have both the XL and BX100...each sounds the same..you have to hold you ear near the boxes to hear them. Did you get this unit new? You may want to open a support case with VUDU:
