ATLChris: What is 1Password?

  • Brendan · 1 year ago
1Password sounds like a good application but how is it different from Keychain and Firefox's "remember password" command? Don't they do the same thing in terms of remembering login info and passwords?
  • Chris Lentz · 1 year ago
Yes, they do the same thing, but 1Password offer much more then just remembering your passwords. It allows you to generate random passwords and store them. Then you can upload them to your iPhone so you can carry them with you. That way if you are on a friends computer and need to get in your gmail, you can grab your iPhone, open up 1Password and get your secure random password.

In addition to what Chris mentioned, 1Password has the unique ability to provide a *unified* password manager across all the major browsers.

For example, Keychain does not work in Firefox, and Firefox's "remember password" does not work in Safari. You therefore need to remember which browser you were using when you saved a password, and it makes it a lot harder to switch between all the great browsers on OS X.

With 1Password you no longer need to manually keep your browser password databases in sync and can switch between browsers as frequently as you want.
